Vira Regen - Market Research, Reimbursement Strategy, and Product Roadmap for the Electrogenetic Pipeline
Company Overview
Vira Regen is a Salt Lake City–based regenerative medicine company developing noninvasive bioelectronic medicines through electrogenetics, a new class of therapy that uses precisely engineered electrical signals to modulate gene expression on demand and drive tissue regeneration. Unlike conventional electrical stimulation, which applies broad and undifferentiated fields, our platform pairs bioelectric stimulation with computational biology and machine learning to identify the specific signal patterns that activate targeted gene cascades. Our lead program, OsteoVolt™, is a noninvasive device for accelerating the healing of fresh and nonunion fractures; preclinical studies demonstrated approximately 50% faster fracture healing, and the program is advancing along an FDA Class II 510(k) pathway. The same platform underpins a pipeline spanning knee osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, cancer electrotherapy, and human performance and longevity, with applications across sports medicine, civilian health systems, and military medicine. The company is preclinical stage and has received a $2 million non-dilutive award through the DoW-MTEC consortium.
Project Description
Students on this project will build the market, reimbursement, and product roadmap foundation for Vira Regen’s electrogenetic pipeline. The team will size and segment the opportunity for each indication — bone growth stimulation, knee osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, osteosarcoma and cancer electrotherapy, and human performance and longevity — across three distinct customer settings: sports medicine, civilian health systems, and the warfighter. Work will include a competitive landscape of incumbent bone growth stimulator and bioelectronic device manufacturers, TAM/SAM/SOM estimates per indication, and a reimbursement analysis covering existing coverage pathways and billing codes for noninvasive osteogenesis stimulators, payer coverage policies and prior-authorization barriers, and the evidence thresholds that would be required to secure or expand coverage for a new indication. The team is encouraged to use AI tools for landscape scanning, document synthesis, and interview analysis, and to supplement desk research with conversations with clinicians, payers, athletic trainers, and military medicine contacts. Deliverables are a written market and reimbursement report, a reusable market sizing model, and a phased product roadmap that sequences the pipeline by regulatory path, reimbursement readiness, clinical evidence burden, and revenue potential, with a clear recommendation on which indication Vira Regen should pursue after OsteoVolt™ and why.
