Colgrid - Mobile app for walkable team boards
Company Overview:
Colgrid turns walkable city neighborhoods into real world team game boards by organizing hosted team gatherings that combine hands on maker challenges local food tastings and urban puzzles into season long adventures. Unlike one off escape rooms or self guided scavenger apps Colgrid features persistent player progression where every level badge and team record earned carries forward across every gathering and city chapter on a personal web pass. Colgrid brings players together in the real world while creating new opportunities for local independent businesses and city tourism organizations to participate in the experience. Students will have the opportunity to work on a product used by live players where the technology directly supports an experience that happens in the real world.
Project Overview:
Students on this project will Students will join in on improving Colgrid’s mobile-first web product (built with Next.js, Vercel and Supabase) by developing it into a Progressive Web App (PWA) for live outdoor play. The project focuses on home-screen installation and full-screen use, offline-ready access to the player pass in areas with weak signal, web push notifications for live game moments, faster in-browser QR scanning for quest check-ins, and automated testing with continuous integration. Students will test on real iPhone and Android devices and deploy their improvements to the live product used by players. The final deliverable is a production-ready PWA with the new features deployed and automated tests and CI in place.
This student team will consist of the following roles:
- Software Development: Build and improve the PWA, including offline access, notifications, QR scanning, testing, and deployment.
- Product Management: Help define the player experience, prioritize features, and turn player needs into clear requirements.
- Data Analytics: Analyze player and event data to measure engagement and identify ways to improve the experience.
