Product Manager, Development Operations

Job Summary 

As a Product Manager for the Office of IT Development Operations team, you will function as the customer interface for the segments of the Administrative Systems portfolio including Campus HR, Payroll, Financials, Student Financials, CES Global Initiatives, Student Information Systems and other assignments as needed. You will succeed in the organization by: 
  • Helping to develop stronger strategic partnerships within OIT and campus and proactively suggest technology solutions to support their goals and to work with a large group of stakeholders with tact and good humor 
  • Maintaining strong lines of communication and customer service skills with a focus on the customer to ensure that their needs are being met 
  • Bring willing to partner with engineers to create products that professionally represent the Office of Information Technology and BYU 
  • Manage the portfolio road map including collaboration with sponsors, funding, and execution of projects, etc. 
  • Increasing your competence in core business processes and systems 
  • Coordinating with Design Engineers and Architects to keep our eyes on the future while meeting the needs of the now 
 
You will act as mentor and adviser to student employees, team members, and other product managers. The ability to supervise and schedule employees, ensuring that work done by those employees is of acceptable quantity and quality, is essential. Product Managers grow their careers by taking additional levels of responsibility, volume, and complexity, including recommending process innovations and taking on high value or large scope product lines.

In this role, you will need to be an ambassador to: customers, IT engineers, technicians, architects, designers, and other product managers. You will also be expected to integrate activities of people from different disciplines and varying levels of skill and technical knowledge for the successful completion of projects. This requires the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts both verbally and in written form to customers internal and across campus. A history and portfolio showing attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking will support you as a candidate for this position.

Education and Experience 


Level 52: 2 years of experience in project management, product management, or business analysis is required. Bachelor’s degree in IT/IS/Management is preferred. Some experience in university operation or business operations is preferred. 
 
Level 53: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, including 4 years of product management, project management, or business analysis.  A degree in IT/MIS/management is preferred. Two (2) years of leadership experience is also required. Experience in university operation or business operation is preferred. 
 
Level 54: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, including 7 years of product management, project management, or business analysis.  A degree in IT/MIS/management is preferred. Five (5) years of leadership experience is also required. Extensive experience in university operation or business operation is required. Strategic planning, budgeting, and marketing experience is preferred. 
 
Level 55: Bachelor's degree is required, with preference for a degree in IT/MIS/management. Ten (10) years of product management, project management, or business analysis is required.  Seven (7) years of leadership experience is required, including supervisory experience. Extensive experience in university operation or business operation is required. Strong strategic planning, budgeting, and marketing experience is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
