After School Math and/or Science Tutor

One College Prep is the high school program of One Refugee, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students from refugee backgrounds thrive in their new home through career counseling, mentorship, financial aid, and more.  Located at Cottonwood High School, One College Prep works with students to improve academic English skills, develop life skills using “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens”, and provide support for their other academic classes.  The objective is to have students prepared to enter college ready for English 1010, Math 1010 and have the life skills necessary for success upon high school graduation.  Many of our students struggle with math and science and need additional support learning the materials in an after-school setting.  The tutor will be an employee of One Refugee, and will work within the United Way/Promise South Salt Lake after school program at Cottonwood High School. Hours are from 2:30-4:00, Monday through Thursday when school is in session.

Duties:
·     Work with students in a small group setting to learn math and/or science concepts not being understood in the regular classroom;  
·     Collaborate with One College Prep Director to identify student needs;
·     Collaborate with high school teachers to obtain lesson materials 

Requirements:
·     Competency in high school math, physics, chemistry and/or biology, with an ability to help students learn the content;
·     Pass background check;
·     Ability to work with students from refugee backgrounds from various cultures with patience, respect, and enthusiasm;
·     Ability to communicate with students, co-workers, and parents in a professional manner;
·     Qualified applicants will be enrolled in a collegiate program in the STEM field or have graduated with a degree in a related field.  Applicant may apply to tutor math, science, or both.
