Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs

Rowland Hall’s Auxiliary Department oversees three elements of programming at Rowland Hall: the Extended Day Program for grades 1-8 on two campuses, the Winter Sports program for grades 1-8, and the SummerWorks program.

Position Summary
Rowland Hall’s Auxiliary Department is seeking a full time Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs. In all three programs listed above, the Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Director to manage the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and assess, educational, social, and recreational programs that are relevant and age-appropriate
  • Interview, hire, and train and supervise staff for the Extended Day and SummerWorks programs
  • Co-facilitate regular year round staff meetings and trainings
  • Market Rowland Hall Auxiliary Programs within and beyond the Rowland Hall community by working collaboratively with the marketing department on publications, the website, and other forms of social media
  • Manage Extended Day and SummerWorks registration and billing process
  • Serve as point person for parents and families, representing the Auxiliary Programs; warmly and efficiently represent the school through timely responses to questions or concerns
  • Work closely with community partners (Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation, The Front Climbing Club, Wasatch Community Gardens, Salt Lake City Library system etc.) to maintain and strengthen existing relationships and establish new partnerships
  • Work closely with the Directors of Operations and Transportation to coordinate all building usage and transportation
  • Train staff and campers on emergency procedures; communicate relevant information to parents
  • Assist in maintenance of SummerWorks camp accreditation with the American Camp Association (ACA) by maintaining and updating annual compliance practices and documents
Desired Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, or at least 2 years of professional experience, in the area of recreation and/or education
  • Experience supervising staff members
  • Prior experience working with children ranging in age from kindergarten through eighth grades
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, whether with parents, colleagues, or children
  • Ability to respond to diverse situations in a calm and positive manner
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, establish and adhere to risk management in an extended-day, summer camp, or field trip program
  • Desire to assess and improve programs for the benefit of students and school

This is a year-round position with the need to be “all hands on deck” during the summer and an expectation that vacation would be taken in the slower periods of the school year.  This is an non-exempt position beginning May 1, 2019, and reports to the Director of Auxiliary Programs.
