Internship - Bridge Inspection

Bridge inspection intern needed in Bend, Oregon!


The role:

We are seeking a summer intern to inspect bridges and other highway structures. In this role, you will work with the region bridge inspector to assess bridge conditions and inspect minor structures like culverts and sign supports. You will also work to make our processes more efficient.

A day in the life:

  • Help inspect bridges and highway structures (like culverts and sign supports).
  • Log bridge inspection results.
  • Gather and log data about the performance of cross channel profiles, bridge clearance and timber borings.
  • Create Excel spreadsheets to make the collection of bridge inspection information more efficient.
  • Help schedule traffic control measures.

What you will learn:

  • How to document structural defects.
  • How to find the likely cause of defects.
  • How to write accurate inspection reports.
  • How to manage a work schedule and coordinate with other units.
  • How to work well with a team.

What we need:

  • A college student studying engineering (particularly civil engineering, civil engineering technology, structural engineering or mechanical engineering) or a related field who has completed at least their sophomore year. Those who have graduated within the past two years are also invited to apply. Good grades are a plus!
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.
