Project Coordinator (Regulatory and Finance Projects)

As the Regulatory & Finance Project Coordinator, you will lead the coordination and organization of finance and regulatory projects including software implementations and enhancements, rate reviews and other finance and regulatory projects for Natural Gas and Electric Utility Companies across Black Hills Corporation. You will be responsible for managing major, highly complex cross-functional projects and teams. You will also partner with the core team, including finance, treasury, tax, regulatory, IT, legal other areas, to ensure projects are being executed effectively and within appropriate time lines. 

LOCATION:   Rapid City, SD

SALARY RANGE:   $78,800 - $102,470 (Base salary is determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  Project Lead – Regulatory & Finance

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Clearly understand and define the scope of each project review in collaboration with the respective core teams.
  • Leads team to develop and implement detailed work plans which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the rate review.
  • Manages schedule for project completion that effectively balances workload and ensures that all deliverables are completed on time.
  • Develop and maintain consistent methodology, processes, data controls and documentation for project execution across different business segments and jurisdictions.
  • Effectively use project management tools to keep track of decisions, timelines, milestones, issues, and execution.
  • Schedules and conducts status meetings with the Core Team and sponsors to ensure timely completion of and address and resolve problems that could prevent timely completion of the project. 
  • Manage and prioritize deadlines with regards to projects and initiatives for which a project coordinator is needed.
  • Provides communication to the Core Team, internal/external SMEs and Steering Committee related to scheduling, status updates, and expectations.
  • Responsible for identifying key issues and decisions and escalating to management in a timely manner
  • Manage and mitigate project risks by analyzing and identifying triggering events.
  • Ensure that projects are completed in a manner consistent with the project guidelines and as a cohesive team.
  • Assist in presenting information for internal decision-making and filings with the appropriate governing body.
  • Ensure team members and subject matter experts are informed of their roles, responsibilities and are able to meet those expectations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Assist in helping standardize finance and regulatory processes including improvements to the design and documentation process. 
  • Assist various internal task force groups in order to develop and implement the company's strategic action plans
  • Assist in training and supporting a standardized project management for other projects outside of their area of responsibility and collaborating with other Project Coordinators to increase consistency
  • Manage project tracking modules in support of overall regulatory and finance activities

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Build relationships with internal/external stakeholders through respect, empathy, effective communication and being well organized

EXPERIENCE:
  • Five or more years of project management experience required
  • Experience working at a regulated company preferred (but not necessary)
  • Experience with forecasting and financial statement analysis is a plus

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree or project management experience required.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of project management methods.
  • Preferred understanding of how regulated utility works, including regulatory requirements, legal proceeding processes, accounting and financial concepts.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, GE Work-Out, and Agile methodologies would be a plus.

SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Self-starter with a positive outlook and motivated attitude.
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be adaptable and adjust to changing project scopes and timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Effectively communicate at all levels in the organization.
  • Adept at finding ways to leverage technology to make processes simpler, more efficient and effective.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook.

CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:
  • Lean/Black Belt/Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Regulated Business experience is a plus.
