Intern Position Description

Introduction
The Military Installation Development Authority (“MIDA”) is a public corporation and political subdivision of the State of Utah created in 2007 by the Utah legislature to promote the development of military land and related projects. In essence, MIDA is an economic development entity with a military focus. MIDA’s mission is to create positive economic outcomes for Utah military bases, base personnel, and their surrounding communities by facilitating development, primarily on underutilized military land.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, and providing related attorney work product material for MIDA’s General Counsel, the Intern is responsible for completing assigned tasks which include: assisting with public, private and community-based partners to develop multiple real estate projects on complex and competing timelines; researching issues and drafting documents; assisting with presentations regarding assigned tasks; and other assigned duties concerning salient project issues (“Projects”). Some Projects will last for many months and others will be completed in days.

The Intern must possess strong administrative capabilities and a desire to learn project/program management. The Intern must embody excellence in oral and written communication, and project a passion for the military as well as community-based development partnerships. The Intern shall also understand and appreciate political sensitivity as well as confidentiality in fulfilling legal assignments. Flexible and talented, the Intern must be willing to learn and engage with complex, community responsive, and sometimes politically charged issues. This position is virtual, meaning the Intern will work from home. Interns MUST be self-motivated and able to produce high quality deliverables with limited supervisory tasking.

Major Duties:

Assists with Project Management, Administration, and Accounting                                                                                     
Assists the MIDA project manager with the planning, budgeting, overseeing, and documenting aspects of specified Projects. Assists key personnel within the organization to ensure MIDA projects are operating within their respective scopes and established timelines. Specifically, the Intern will help educate landowners and property buyers about the MIDA tax increment as it relates to the development areas surrounding the Jordanelle recreation area.                                         

Assists in the preparation of presentations and correspondence with various stakeholders. They may also be asked to schedule and take minutes for meetings, arrange travel, and prepare reports in service to MIDA’s organizational mission.

The Intern will be expected to work 30 hours a week, for three months during the summer. They will keep track of their own hours and may be asked to be present in meetings in person or by phone, as well as correspond by email or text. This is a 3month, part-time position.

Attorney Work-Product
While assisting on projects, the Intern will often be tasked with doing related work for the General Counsel that will be treated as confidential work-product related to legal advice and possible litigation.

Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
The intern should currently be seeking a Master Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Project Management, or Real Estate Development.

Have a good working knowledge of computer systems and software (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, Outlook, etc.) to successfully perform all the duties of this position.

Experience related to government a plus.

Salary and Benefits
Pay is $15/hour.

Position Location and Travel
The Intern will not have an assigned office, so the person will work from home. The Intern will use their own mobile phone, computer, and internet connection and not be reimbursed. The Intern may need to travel to meetings near Hill Air Force Base, Wasatch County, and other locations in Utah where military facilities are located. The person will use their own vehicle for travel and will be reimbursed for travel expenses.
