Event Planning Intern
Summer 2019

Conservation Colorado is seeking a part-time Event Planning Intern to play a major role in our key fundraising events. With an event portfolio that includes a beer festival and multiple smaller donor events, this is an ideal opportunity to gain event and fundraising experience in the nonprofit field.

Position: Event Planning Intern
Location: Denver
Deadline for submission: June 14, 2019
Term of Position: June - August
Work Schedule: June – August: 15 to 20 hours/week
Compensation: $11.10 per hour

Primary Responsibilities
Save the Ales volunteer and event coordination
  • Management of volunteers, including task assignments and training
  • Working with event planning committee volunteers to reach out to breweries, design event, and run event
  • Supporting the Fundraising & Events Manager with sponsor outreach
  • Solicitation of items from local businesses and individuals for the raffle/silent auction
  • Management of venue setup, brewery relations, and volunteers at the event
  • Set up, tear down, organization, and disbursement of items from raffle/silent auction
  • Post-event donor follow-up and data entry
Other
  • Day-of event support including set-up, check-in management, and tear-down for additional major donor and fundraising events
  • Opportunity to plan and execute an event with help and management as required from the Fundraising & Events Manager

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong interest in protecting Colorado’s environment and quality of life, is outgoing and enthusiastic about working with people, and has a true desire to learn more about development, fundraising, and event planning. Students with majors in the areas of event and hospitality management as well as development, fundraising, or communications are encouraged to apply. Specific background requirements include:
  • Strong analytical skills for data management
  • Demonstrable skills in persuasive writing
  • Attention to detail and highly organized
  • Superior communication skills, both on the phone and in person
  • Ability to multi-task and manage short- and long-term deadlines
  • Familiarity with auctions and/or event planning is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and design programs and are a plus

Compensation and Benefits
The Event Planning Intern will earn $11.10 per hour.
Additionally, letters of recommendation may also be provided upon request (and course credit when applicable). Intern will also gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable political and environmental professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. In addition, Conservation Colorado is located in one of Denver’s premier multi-tenant nonprofit centers, The Alliance Center, so opportunities for shared learning and dialogue between nonprofits abound. The intern will have the opportunity to network at political and environmental events throughout the course of the internship. Opportunities for full-time employment at Conservation Colorado do occasionally occur and interns are eligible to apply.


Special Job Requirements and Physical Demands
Flexible work hours; some evening and weekend hours may occur. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this assignment. Intern regularly walks, bends, stoops, climbs stairs, and lifts up to 35 pounds. We welcome diversity and can adjust position requirements to match the needs of applicants when necessary.
