Environmental Protection Engineer I - Springfield, Illinois

Under the direction of the CAAPP Operating Unit 2 Manager, performs routine engineering analysis of assigned permit applications; assists higher level engineers in the review of permit applications; participates in discussions with permit applicants and Agency engineers; reviews and updates the Permit Section computer data systems; and resolves permit fee issues. Based on Permit Section operational needs, including the employee's experience, this position may be assigned on an interim basis to a different Leadworker or Unit Manager in the Section by the Permit Section Manager to review various types of permit applications.

Education - Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with a Bachelor's degree in an engineering science. Typically, the subject matter would involve the type of coursework associated with environmental (sanitary, hydraulic, hydrology, and air pollution specialties), civil (sanitary, hydraulic and hydrology specialties), general, industrial, mechanical, chemical, public health, electronic, acoustical or aeronautical engineering or engineering mechanics or a closely related engineering specialty.

Desirable Requirements: Good oral and written communication skills; ability to make mathematical computations and calculations; ability to understand, interpret and apply state and federal rules, regulations, etc.; ability to plan, schedule and prioritize daily work; and good decision making abilities.

Specific Job Requirements: Requires travel and valid driver's license.
