Organizing & Outreach Intern

Position: Organizing & Outreach Intern
Location: Denver, Colorado

Term of Position: October - December 2019
Work Schedule: Part-time (10-15 hrs a week) and flexible based upon work/school schedule
Compensation: $11.10 per hour


Conservation Colorado is seeking a part-time Organizing & Outreach Intern to assist with outreach efforts and take the lead on special projects this fall. The Intern will gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable organizing professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. This internship is designed for an individual who is passionate about the conservation movement, committed to civic engagement, and seeking an opportunity to mobilize volunteers to take action at various levels. The internship is also designed to provide training and expertise in our issue-area campaigns concerning public lands and wilderness, water, and climate and energy.

Primary Responsibilities
●     Assist with planning, attendee turnout, and logistics for events
●     Assist organizers with community education and outreach efforts including drafting and placing letters to the editor, writing social media posts, tabling at events, crafting public education communications materials, etc.
●     Support Organizing Team with grasstops and grassroots engagement and data tracking; coordinate volunteers around major legislative priorities and issue-area campaigns

Qualifications
We’re seeking someone who has a strong interest in conservation issues, community organizing, and/or policy issues, and is enthusiastic about working with people. Those with an interest in environmental justice, social change, community organizing and mobilization, and elections work are encouraged to apply. Specific requirements include: 
 
●     Meticulous and well organized
●     Strong written and verbal communication skills, both on the phone and in person
●     Interest in working with diverse communities
●     Ability to multi-task and manage short-term and long-term deadlines
●     Willingness to talk to strangers about environmental and policy issues
●     Willingness to do the personal and organizational work around equity, diversity, and inclusivity
●     Working knowledge of Google Apps, Microsoft Office and design programs are a plus
 
Compensation and Benefits
The Organizing & Outreach Intern will earn $11.10 per hour.
 
This intern will gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable organizing, advocacy, and political professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. In addition, Conservation Colorado is located in one of Denver’s premier multi-tenant nonprofit centers, The Alliance Center, so opportunities for shared learning and dialogue between nonprofits abound. Intern will have the opportunity to network at political and environmental events throughout the course of the internship. Additionally, letters of recommendation will be available upon request. Opportunities for full-time employment at Conservation Colorado do occasionally occur and interns are eligible to apply.
