Corporate Communications Intern

Expected Length of Internship:
January 2020 - May 2020 (Part-time)


Experience:    
  • Writing experience necessary
  • Ability to take a concept, do research and interviews, and turn in a compelling story or article

Education:
  • Currently enrolled in Communications, Journalism, Business Communications or English.
  • Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelors, Master’s or PhD program who is fulfilling a graduation requirement for their degree.
  • First Solar encourages all interns to register with their University.

Required Skills/Competencies:
  • Actively enrolled Bachelor’s degree program in English, Journalism, Communications or related field with minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with outstanding command of the English language (writing samples required).
  • Ability to frame and conduct interviews in person, by phone or via email to get the appropriate information to tell a good story
  • Highly organized with project management skills to operate in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail; ability to maintain confidentiality; professional.
  • Strong level of proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Other skills desired, but can learn on the job: Adobe Suite, Final Cut Pro, video production and editing

Basic Internship Scope (Project):
  • As a member of First Solar’s Corporate Communications team you will support efforts to increase engagement and understanding of the company’s strategy and culture across the organization. You will work on internal communications and marketing campaigns to build awareness of what our culture looks like in action, how we reach our goals as One First Solar, and the people behind our success. You will work closely with a wide variety of functions within and outside of the Internal Communications team. Your main deliverable will be writing editorial copy, with opportunities to also work on video production and social media planning and posting.
  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Writing content to support key themes
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned
  • Analyze information to reveal valuable insight
  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders on an array of projects
  • Perform research and information gathering as needed to support team efforts
  • Interview key personnel and write concise, engaging copy (following Associated Press style) to communicate key messages aligned with corporate strategy and culture
  • Coordinate posting and distribution of approved stories and collateral in channels that include but are not limited to: company intranet, email, digital signage, print, and internal or external social media. Store documentation and collateral for assignments in team’s shared database.
  • Identify one (1) major project and how it will contribute to the department’s goals.
  • The intern will bring new ideas and deliver communications supporting the three key themes for Internal Communications:

  • How our people are leading the world’s sustainable energy future
  • This supports the Internal Communications goal of:
  • Drive broad adoption of Vision/Mission/Culture across the enterprise
  • Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team.

Office Physical Requirements:
All positions in our office require interaction with people and technology while either standing or sitting.
