Clinician (St. Anthony, Idaho)

Clinicians for the Department of Juvenile Corrections work with incarcerated juveniles in an institutional environment, providing direct clinical services. This position provides assessment, multifaceted clinical therapy and/or rehabilitative services to juveniles and families. The Clinician decides the clinical and mental health approaches from an acceptable gamut of options and conducts audits and oversight of designated service components as assigned. The Clinician can recommend process and direction to juveniles and family, relative to assignment and policy. This position also works on-call as suicide evaluator. 

The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections has regionalized state services for juveniles committed to its custody, making it possible for most juveniles to remain close enough to their communities so parents and other key community members can take part in the juvenile's treatment. State juvenile correctional centers are located in Lewiston, Nampa, and St. Anthony and provide a full complement of services for youth who range from 10 to 20 years of age.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform assessments, evaluations, observations and interviews using a variety of assessment tools to identify needs and formulate diagnostic impressions;
  • Develop treatment plans, and recommend services and interventions;
  • Provide direct counseling to individuals, families and groups;
  • Provide crisis interventions;
  • Case consultation with Juvenile Service Coordinators (Social Workers), Juvenile Probation Officers, treatment team, and private providers;
  • Provide multifaceted clinical therapy and/or rehabilitative services consultation;
  • Serve as on-call Suicide Evaluator in a rotation schedule.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree (or higher) in a direct clinical practice Human Services field is required for this position. (Master's degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychosocial rehabilitation counseling, psychiatric nursing, or very closely related field of study.)
  • Must hold or obtain a current Idaho license as a Licensed Masters Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor within 90 days of hire. Failure to obtain a current license within 90 days of hire will result in dismissal from employment.
  • If you hold a current license issued by another state, you must obtain an endorsement for an Idaho license or provide verification from the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses (IBOL) confirming your eligibility for licensure prior to hire. 
  • If you are not currently licensed in Idaho or in another state but are license eligible in one of the required professions, you must provide verification from IBOL that you are scheduled to sit for licensure within 90 days.

  • Willingness to work in a juvenile facility and be comfortable dealing with behavioral acting out that could include possible harassment, threats, and verbal abuse from juveniles in custody
  • Must meet federal PREA standards

Desired Qualifications (not required, but may increase your exam score)
  • Experience using evidence based treatment practices counseling juveniles and their families.
  • Working knowledge or experience providing treatment to one or more of the following populations: individuals who have experienced trauma;  sex offenders; individuals with mental health diagnosis; peer groups.
