Marriott Library Digital Collections Pre-Processor PRN10693N

Our small team is responsible for the digital preservation of born-digital and digitized records from all over Utah. We preserve thousands of files per week. As Digital Collections Pre-Processor, you will be able to polish skills like paying attention to details, being an effective member of a team, and developing a self-directed work ethic. You will gain, or build on, experience with Excel spreadsheets as you prepare files and their metadata for ingest into the digital archive. As you work with large batches of files in various formats, you will prepare metadata on spreadsheets and have the chance to work with simple utilities such as bulk renaming tools and command line utilities as you help us create order out of digital chaos. This position is considered Category IIA: Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID-19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID-19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities
Enter data into spreadsheets

Manipulate spreadsheets with software

Move, organize, and manipulate batches of digital files

Use digital preservation software to manage ingests into digital archive

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.

Preferences
Ability to work 19 hours per week

Familiarity with MS Office suite, especially Excel or equivalent

Demonstrated organizational abilities and good attention to detail

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
