HCI ORIEN COLLABORATION Staff Research Assistant PRN10676N

Coordinates research and administrative activities in support of the institutional biobanking research initiative: Huntsman Cancer Institute-Total Cancer Care.

This position is considered Category IIA: Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID-19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID-19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities
This position focuses primarily on offering study enrollment to patients.
The research assistant works under the direction of the Associate Director for Total Cancer Care, consults with the team on project/study issues and/or solicits guidance as necessary. They work independently with patients.

Essential Functions
1. Coordinates and performs responsibilities such as offering enrollment, obtaining informed consent, and other patient communications in clinics at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
2. Works closely with the Biorepository and investigators to ensure collection of samples.
3. Assists the Associate Director & Program Manager with Total Cancer Care research related tasks.
4. Hourly schedule to be determined but may start as early as 6am.

They prioritize and help optimize processes needed to achieve study goals. They function independently under minimal supervision. They have an understanding of good clinical practice and research processes.

Minimum Qualifications
One year research experience or equivalency; demonstrated organizational and communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. An understanding of research protocols and procedures preferred.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Preferences

High School Diploma.

Excellent communication skills.

Demonstrates potential to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined.

Willingness and desire to learn about clinical research and oncology.

IRB Course on the protection of human research subjects required upon hire.
