This position works as a supervisor in the Department of Labor & Regulation in the administrative office in Aberdeen. Occasional travel to other communities across the state along with one out-of-state trip annually are on an as needed basis.

The Reemployment Assistance (RA) Division (formerly Unemployment Insurance) is looking for a leader to administer the Tax Services program. This position oversees 15 staff mostly located throughout the State while also being part of the RA Director's advisory team. To become the expert of RA tax, this position will review and interpret federal and state laws and policies in order to provide guidance and advice to staff, employers, and the public. Duties in this position also include managing the tax audit program, reviewing investigations and determination letters, participating in appeals hearings, recommending improvements to the RA program, and reporting to state and federal programs. 
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
Licenses and Certifications:
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or another related field. 
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • 3 or more years of experience supervising employees;
  • experience reading and interpreting federal policies;
  • knowledge of unemployment insurance benefits and/or taxes;
  • experience in Lean or similar efficiency philosophies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • to pay close attention to details;
  • Microsoft Office skills, especially Word, Excel, and Teams;
  • to work with numbers and calculate taxes;
  • communicate effectively both orally and written.
