General Function:
Under the direction of the school principal the educator is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible arts integrated program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and in accordance with each pupil’s ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.

Summary and Overall Objective:
* The educator is responsible for the education of assigned students

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities:
* Teach subject matter, i.e., reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, music, applied technology etc., utilizing the standards adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities. 
* Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual pupil needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive pupil learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction. 
* Maintain classroom organization and discipline. 
* Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere. 
* Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction. 
* Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds. 
* Devise and utilize techniques, which accurately measure pupil progress. 
* Evaluate pupil’s academic and personal growth, keeping appropriate records, and prepare progress reports. 
* Communicate with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress; interpret school programs. 
* Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas. 
* Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. 
* Conform to District policies including attendance, absences and evaluations. Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions. 
* Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. 
* Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and through self selected professional growth activities. 
* Participate in faculty meetings, committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. 
* Administer group standardized test in accordance with district testing program. 
* Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain required inventory records. 
* Cooperates with the custodian(s) for the general housekeeping needs in the area(s) for which the teacher is assigned.
BTS Visual and Performing Arts Educator
* Teaches 30-45 minute sessions with each class individually, and assess student learning. 
* Provides required components for the BTSALP website, e.g. lesson plans, action research, teaching resources. 
* Models arts core and integrated arts teaching and assessment. 
* Collaborates with grade level teams for planning integrated lessons/units. 
* Collaboratively involves the classroom teacher in the arts/integrated instructional activities. 
* Collaborates with principal, and university partners to explore arts professional development opportunities for schools. 
* Attends BTSALP professional development meetings throughout the year. 
* Plans performances and/or exhibits to celebrate students’ arts learning with the school community as an audience at least once per year. 
* Collaborates with other arts teachers in BTSALP in order to create an accessible collection of integrated lessons and resources. 
* Participates in the BTSALP evaluation program, completing all components of data collection. 
* Serves on the school arts team to set goals and plan/support arts events. 
* Implements the arts teaching component of the program with fidelity. Assists advocacy efforts for the sustainability and growth of the program.
* Plans daily class time to achieve a balanced program of study of concepts, individual and group performance, development of standards of critical analysis, and development of effective listening skills.

Teachers are expected to dress in good taste and be well groomed, befitting to members of a respected profession. Cleanliness of self and attire, neatness, and attractive grooming are stressed and expected. Teachers should always dress in a manner that professionally sets them apart from students. Exceptions to the dress limitations are school approved special events or activities.

* Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
* Ability to plan and implement lessons based on grade level objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. 
* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge and experience requirements; the machines, tools and equipment used; and any licenses or certifications required.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from four-year college or university.

Preferred Education and Job Related Experience:
Experience working in a K-12 environment.

Required Licenses and Certifications:
Active Utah Early Childhood Education K-3 or Elementary Education K-6 or Elementary Education 1-8 Teaching License with the applicable BTS content area endorsement. ESL Endorsement would be beneficial.

Travel Requirements:
* Some local and out of town travel may be required
* Personal transportation to and from work is required


Terms of Employment:

Full-time 185 Contract Days
