Alcohol GIS Intern

Project Description:
The main project for the Alcohol GIS Intern is to assess alcohol outlet density in Utah using the Alcohol Outlet Density Guide created by the CDC.
Principle Duties:
• Categorize retail alcohol outlets by type
• Geocode Utah’s alcohol outlets data
• Calculate alcohol outlet density using the selected approach
• Perform various density calculations including container-based, distance-based, and spatial access-based
• Assessing the relationship of alcohol outlet density and alcohol-attributable harms
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Experience with ArcGIS
• Ability to perform GIS analysis
• Ability to appear for scheduled work with regular, reliable and punctual attendance
• Ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks within a specified time frame
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral)
• Problem-solving skills and ability to create innovative solutions
• Skills to prepare and make effective presentations
• Pursuing a degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or GIS Mapping-related Field
