Regulatory Data Analyst

What we do: 
The mission of the New York Fed's Data and Statistics function is to increase utility and ability to leverage financial data through standardization, thoughtful collection design, and increase capacity of the Function to scale operations. Reporting to the Regulatory Data Manager, you will be a part of the Risk and Capital team within the larger Financial Analysis Services Team (FAST), responsible for performing data analysis, building out and managing analytical products and responding to ongoing stakeholder and firm inquiries related to interpretive reporting topics. Risk and Capital provides services focusing on data quality assurance and analysis of financial data received from domestic and foreign depository and financial institutions.
 
Your role as Regulatory Data Analyst:
  • Research well-defined inquiries (non-interpretive issues and frequently asked questions) on assigned data concepts and reporters, and conduct data analysis and visualization to support client outputs
  • Perform extended analysis and question respondents on data quality items of note for less complex data collections, including identifying and explaining unusual fluctuations and trends in data for assigned series
  • Assess and respond to requests from Board staff on data collection operations and conduct studies on institutions' reporting practices
  • Prepare procedure documents and assist peers on data collections and reporting concepts
  • Participate in Function and System workgroups as assigned
 
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Economics with 2-3 years relevant work experience
  • Experience identifying data and reporting discrepancies and analyzing the impact of new and evolving financial instruments and market conditions concerning reporting requirements and other regulations
  • Familiarity with financial and market conditions, financial statements (income statement and balance sheet), markets and instruments, organization structures, accounting practices, and regulatory capital rules, e.g. Basel III
  • Experience providing timely and accurate analysis, verbally and written
  • Ability to work across all levels of staff and management at Reserve Banks, regulatory agencies and regulated institutions
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Tableau, R, SAS, Python, SQL or similar technology
