Office and Location: The State Water Resources Control Board’s, Division of Drinking Water, Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program has an opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist). The position location is 1001 I Street, 17th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Degrees: Qualified seniors within 6 months of graduating may apply. Applicants must read the  Minimum Requirements to confirm qualification. Possession of a bachelor's or advanced degree with a major in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline. (Admission to a masters or doctoral degree program in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline shall be considered.

Pay and Benefits:
The Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) classification's standard pay range is $6,816.00 to $8,479.00Benefits packages for State employees include health, dental, vision, retirement, and much more!  NOTE: Effective July 1, 2020, State employees are subject to a 9.23% salary reduction in exchange for up to 16 hours of the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020) per month.

Duties: Acts as liaison between the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) and the California state regulatory agencies when reviewing and approving analytical test methodologies for United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) rules, California regulation, contracts, permits, policies and orders. Maintains knowledge in various USEPA and California environmental programs and policies that utilizing California accreditation. Performs research, consults and interacts with personnel in federal and state agencies for determining their agency’s laboratory accreditation needs. Provides specialized technical assistance and knowledge to California regulatory programs and laboratories to understand and interpret regulations that may impact or limit the decisions made about their program or business.
Assists agencies to define data and regulatory quality objectives related to analytical test methodology and future updates to accreditation offerings. Collaborates with other state regulatory programs to guide decisions and actions on laboratory-related challenges that programs face including analytical method validation procedures and protocols and procedures for statewide Alternate Test Procedure validation process with USEPA. Provides specialized technical assistance to state regulatory programs with their permit and regulatory language to be more consistent and compliant with state and federal regulations, as well as, technical language that aligns with laboratory community capacity and capabilities. 
Provides specialized knowledge to ELAP, ELAP’s technical advisory committee, and California regulatory programs regarding development of Quality Assurance Program and Project Plans related to analytical test methodology and accreditation requirements and lead engagements and meetings of the State Agency Partner Committee quarterly meetings. May serve as the Designated Laboratory Accreditation Official for the Environmental Laboratory Technical Advisory Committee.
