Summer 2022 Investment Team Intern @Mercato Partners in Cottonwood Heights, UT (Internship will be held in person):
Mercato Partners is a private equity firm, investing across multiple alternative asset classes to provide both capital and guidance to founders and companies in a range of stages and a variety of industries. Mercato built five distinct practices – Traverse, Alpha, Prelude, Savory, and MPAC under the Mercato Partners umbrella.
- Prelude is Mercato Partners’ venture fund. Prelude partners with founders building technology companies that are critical to their customers operations.
- Traverse is Mercato Partners’ growth-stage fund. Traverse offers growth-stage companies incomparable leverage, capital for strategic deployment, and knowledge gained from decades of performance across multiple industries, geographies, and economic conditions.
- Savory is Mercato’s food and beverage fund. Savory partners with restaurateurs to expand unique brands that target unique, new and undiscovered parts of the food & beverage industry.
- Alpha is a pure-play direct secondaries investor. Alpha leverages our entrepreneurial DNA to engage with shareholders in leading private companies and provide them with creative liquidity solutions.
- MPAC (Mercato Partners Acquisition Corporation) is a newly launched SPAC under the Mercato umbrella. The new SPAC is a $200M vehicle.
Growth Equity Intern Position:
Our internship program is a 16-week long program. Our interns develop a rich understanding of venture capital and private equity, gain access to a network of leading private equity professionals and learn valuable investment insights. Mercato looks for individual qualities such as entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and strong desire to learn. Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Internship Recruiting Process:
Applications will close on January 24th, 2022 at 11:59 pm. There will be three rounds of the interview process:
- First screen - a member of our investment team will do a first pass on resumes and LinkedIn profiles. (You will receive notification of a yes or no decision by late January, 2022)
- If you pass the first screen and advance to stage two, you will be sent a link for a video interview to complete by early February (You will receive a yes or no decision by mid February)
- The last stage of the interview process will be an in person or virtual interview with 1-2 members of our senior investment team. (Final offers will be sent out by the end of February)
Responsibilities (Subject to change):
- Perform market research and support deal team in research and deliverables to identify new investment trends and opportunities.
- Prospect investments - gather information from the company using materials such as PitchBook, Preqin, LinkedIn, etc. Score companies based on alignment to Mercato’s investment thesis.
- Engage with our performance team and investor success team on projects - assist our sales, marketing, and human capital management leaders in projects that add value to Mercato’s portfolio companies. Work with other stakeholders within Mercato Partners such as finance and investor relations.
- Assist with various projects across the different practices at Mercato.
- Present a capstone project.

- Candidate should be hard-working and a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, who excels with little direction.
- Candidate should have strong excel, modeling, communication and presentation, and PowerPoint skills.
