The content designer will work as a member of UMD’s University Marketing and Public Relations (UMPR) team. This position is audience-focused and works to plan, organize, edit, and publish engaging and strategic content. This position will research the audience(s) to understand problems, define user needs, and drive strategy to deliver the right content in the best format. Must have strong written communication skills, be user-experience focused, work well in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of individuals on campus. This position will also work closely with technical staff to maintain website standards and enhance user experience. This position reports to the Graphic & Multimedia Designer. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Help drive and manage UMPR’s content strategy and find ways to integrate content throughout all communication channels; support the distribution of digital content across multiple channels.
● Research, identify, and develop strategies to deliver engaging content to target audiences; effectively delivering the user the content they are seeking.
● Provide editing and writing support and expertise.
● Work with the UMPR team to monitor analytics and provide reports and recommendations to help optimize efforts.
● Manage and organize website content; manage and maintain primary central UMD webpages such as the homepage and top navigation pages.
● Manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail; prioritize and meet deadlines
● Build ongoing relationships and act as a primary website point of contact for units across campus; consult and provide support for their digital content, including web support such as analytics, information architecture, search engine optimization, content governance, and strategy.
● Create new or edit existing websites to ensure engaging content and layout for a positive user experience.
● Utilize best practices and train UMD web editors to ensure consistency and quality.
● Schedule and facilitate end-user web training and discussions; work in collaboration with ITSS to lead website-related meetings for the campus community.
● Ensure messaging enhances the UMD brand; comply with branding and style guides.
● Provide project management skills and leadership with regard to content and quality control of UMD web pages.
● Fostering a culture of respect and accurately representing the UMD campus community and our core values.
● Manage student employee(s) to provide additional workforce support and capacity.
● Ability to work evening and weekend hours when necessary.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● BA/BS degree or a combination or related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Superb editing and content organization skills.
● Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Experience with content strategy, analytics, and user experience.
● Experience with web content management systems.
● Demonstrated strong communication and collaboration skills.
● Familiarity with search engine optimization.
