Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours per calendar year. The salary range for Scientific Aid is $16.07 - $19.07 per hour.

The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Regional Board, has one opening for a Scientific Aid in the Non-15 Waste Discharge to Land Permitting Unit in our Rancho Cordova office. The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Drive, Suite 200, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 right next to light rail stations and other public transportation.

Under the direct supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist, the Scientific Aid will assist staff with the following tasks:

  • Meet coordination tasks such as schedules, meeting notes, prepare presentations, and contact interested parties.
  • Create and web post of Accessibility Documents: Fact sheets, Active Projects, and Guidance Docs.
  • Review, evaluate, and summarize Engineering and Feasibility Reports, Preliminary Work Plans, NPDES/WDR Permits, and so forth.
  • Gather and help with the development of ArcGIS maps from existing groundwater data and information obtained through the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) and Local Agency Management Programs (LAMPs).
  • Assist with annual LAMP reviews and other OWTS-related permitting functions with the WDR (Non 15) Unit (e.g., perform document completeness reviews as compared with program requirements and compile system operation information into Microsoft Access or Excel databases).
  • Coordinate with counties that are implementing and tracking LAMPs throughout the Central Valley.
  • Maintain orderly electronic content of internal and external information exchange in Administrative Case Files and specific databases.

The Scientific Aid must display good customer service practices to internal and external customers and respond to routine public and staff inquiries. The Scientific Aid will perform other administrative and customer service duties as required.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
