Technical Operations Intern

January - May 2020 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The environment at Southwest Airlines was unparalleled to any other experience I have had. The warm welcome of my team, the different learning opportunities, and the culture of Southwest is refreshing. I liked that the team that I was working with always encouraged me to learn different things and always included me in meetings, vendor lunches/dinners, and daily check-ins not to just talk about work but to see how I was adapting to a different lifestyle and how I was adjusting to the new city. Very Very nice people that work at Southwest.

What I wish was different

My internship was affected by COVID-19 and I just wish that things could be different due to the pandemic. Other than that everything was perfect at the internship.

Advice

Take every day to your advantage. I didn't think that my internship would be interrupted by a pandemic so I did not take full advantage of every day with the internship. This is the time to take every day to your advantage. To make new memories, form connections, and learn something new every day.

Supply Chain Intern

May - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Amazing culture, people, loved coming to work every day. Southwest sets the bar high for other companies. It's a unique experience that anyone would love.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I loved it.

Advice

Take work seriously, but not yourself. It's an internship, but don't focus solely on work. Make time to network and get to know more people around you.

Operations agent

February 2016 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

They offer great benefits, they offer paid training and free personal growth courses, tuition reimbursement, day in the field program, profit sharing/401k, union membership, flight and pass privileges. They have a great environment to work in that is diverse and inclusive.

What I wish was different

They run very lean with staffing, causing a lot of mandatory overtime which can interfere with studying or getting to class during the school year. Only guaranteed one day off per week. Company should have more programs to recognize their employees for working hard. Employees have to pay to park at the airport.

Advice

Embrace the work hard, play hard mentality. Be flexible.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different was there was not a housing stipend.

Advice

Having a fun-loving attitude and a servant’s heart will take you a long way!

What I wish was different

I commuted to Dallas from Fort Worth which was not fun

What I liked

I loved the atmosphere and culture, it inspired me to live up to the challenge of the work I had.

Cargo Sales Intern

January - May 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The culture was amazing! The projects I had stretched me and provided me a way to add value and make a real impact. The flight benefits were a dream!

What I wish was different

I wish I would have gone to Costa Rica...

Advice

Go in looking for experience and a great time, not a return offer. They don't do return offers because they already get so many amazing applicants because EVERYONE wants to work for them. Their internship is still top notch and worth every second.

Corporate Facilities Intern

January - April 2018 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

The Southwest culture is real. The interns have a lot of fun. Was assigned a lot of meaningful projects that were beneficial to my education and resume experience. Felt included in all department activities and learned teamwork lessons that I helped me be a better employee.

What I wish was different

It was hard finding a place to stay in Dallas near the Love Field Airport.

Advice

Do some studying about what it means to have a servant's heart, warrior's spirit and a fun-"luving" attitude. Don't take things too seriously. Find a balance between having fun and getting work done, but always remember to have lots of fun.
